Thank you to Officers Miller, Christensen, and Hoven for speaking with our 5th–12th grade students today. They covered important topics such as making positive choices, avoiding drugs and alcohol, doing well in school, maintaining good attendance, showing kindness, and treating others with respect. They also emphasized safe driving and following the law. A special highlight was the demonstration by Murph, the drug dog, who also conducted a locker sweep earlier in the morning—which nothing was found! We appreciate our local law enforcement for their time and valuable message.

The Webster Area School District has joined many other school districts in South Dakota in the Farm to School Program. We are doing this program with the goal of providing 100% locally grown and processed beef in our school lunch program. To help make this possible, the Webster Area School District is looking for donations of beef cattle for the 2024-2025 school year. Monetary donations to this program will be used to offset the cost of the processing. If you are interested in donating to the Webster Area School District Local Beef Program, please contact Lori O’Farrell at 605-345-3548 or lori.ofarrell@k12.sd.us.

• Transportation to and from school: Parents and students, please be extra cautious when walking, biking, or driving to and from school. We had a very close call this morning involving a bus and a student on a bike. Due to the current timing of the sunrise at the start of the school day, visibility can be very limited. Drivers, please slow down and stay aware of your surroundings. Walkers and bike riders, stay near the curb or use the sidewalk to keep a safe distance from traffic. Be especially cautious at intersections and crosswalks, ensuring it’s safe to cross. Parents, please take the time to talk to your children about these safety measures. Thank you for your cooperation!

Now that we have an awesome upgraded playground, let’s keep it that way! We’ve posted 8 signs around the playground with the rules, so please take a moment to read them (see attachment). We ask everyone using the playground to follow these rules to maintain a safe and enjoyable environment for all. If you see someone not following the rules, please address it directly with them or report it to the school office or the police. We especially need your help during non-school hours. Let’s all work together to keep this playground an awesome facility! Thanks for your cooperation!
